What’s involved in Ice Driving?

We provide a safe and controlled environment for drivers of all abilities to perfect their car control skills on a slippery surface. Whether you’re a professional rally driver, or a complete novice, our experience is designed to be exciting, fun and informative.

We drive on a frozen lake, which provides the ideal flat surface on which we remove any snow to carve out the driving areas.

Our facility is split into different areas dedicated to different purposes. We have ice circles, slalom course, ovals, and a handling circuit.

Our cars are chosen to offer varied handling characteristics requiring different driving techniques. In a road car, the average driver may not know, or even care, which wheels are connected to the engine. On slippery surfaces which wheels are providing the drive from the engine has a fundamental difference in the way the car responds, and different driving techniques are required to control the car.

Driving on the ice means that the car is largely in a constant state of sliding, but you learn to slide the car in a controlled manner.

Our instructors will start by teaching the basic techniques for road driving in slippery conditions, and explore the electronic safety systems on modern cars such as anti-lock brakes and stability control. We then turn off the stability systems, to see how the cars respond without these systems, and teach you how to control the cars.

As your skills progress, we introduce advanced techniques such as left-foot braking, weight transfer, throttle steering, and the Scandinavian flick.
We have cars with front wheel drive, rear wheel drive and all-wheel drive, all with different handling characteristics. Choosing a package with different cars offers a unique challenge and a varied experience.
